Prevention Veterinary Nurse - Casual (Pearcedale)

The RSPCA Community Outreach Team are looking for experienced surgical nurses to help deliver our community desexing programs for the Peninsula Vet Clinic!

About the role

To assist the Community Outreach team in delivering our community desexing programs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesdays offer $99 desexing, vaccinations, and microchips to the public. The second Tuesday of each month is a high-volume desexing day.

Current days will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the possibility of additional days if the program expands.

Duties and Responsibilities
Carry out all nursing tasks independently including (but not limited to):

  • Perform surgical nursing tasks, including preparing animals for surgery, monitoring anaesthesia, and providing post-operative care.
  • Admit and discharge patients, ensuring clear communication with owners.
  • Monitor animal health and well-being and report any concerns to veterinarians.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Complete administrative tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide general animal care, including feeding, cleaning, and exercising animals.
  • Assist with veterinary procedures and treatments.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment.

What we are looking for

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) is required.
  • Excellent surgical nursing skills.
  • Be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of animal husbandry.
  • The ability to work within a team environment including the ability to develop the capability of less experienced team members.

Desirable

  • RECOVER CPR certification.
  • High volume desexing surgical experience.
  • Experience working with community groups and/or more vulnerable people.

Recruitment Requirements

  • The ability to work outside of normal business hours and weekend work, when required (as per the two programs information provide above).
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Valid tetanus vaccination.
